Usability Test Findings
Below are key observations and usability insights gathered from the three moderated test sessions. Time-stamped references link to the full videos.
User #1: Bryce Thornton
- [13:52] Loved the confirmation message that appears after clicking the Subscribe button. Found it engaging and affirming.
- [16:33, 25:00] Found the phrase "Find your next trail" misleading — expected actual trail recommendations rather than prep tips.
- [19:38] Noticed the hero image was stretched and of low visual quality, especially on large screens.
User #2: Iaan Hayes
- [11:02] Noted that trekking poles were recommended in the Tips page, but not listed anywhere in the Gear Guide — suggested adding them.
- [15:40] Found the "What You’ll Get" section too vague. He wanted to know the details like email frequency and whether content changes each month.
- [17:03] Did not notice the top-of-page links on the Subscribe page without verbal prompting.
- [19:35] Assumed the "Explore Gear" button would lead to actual gear shopping or affiliate links, not a static guide.
- [21:33] Found the gear sets especially useful and clearly written — appreciated them as a beginner.
- [26:45] Suggested including visuals or illustrations of gear for better clarity and engagement.
User #3: Jade Lopez
- [15:05] Was confused that the "Why Subscribe?" section appeared below the actual subscription form — expected it to come first.
- [17:30] Did not realize why the "Full Name" input was not split into separate first/last name fields. This caused hesitation.
- [21:25] Expected to see user testimonials on the homepage — said testimonials would help establish credibility and trust early.
